How it works

Find out if you’re eligible for CDPAP

Call us to schedule a nurse to visit you at home to determine if you’re eligible for the program. You’ll find out how many weekly hours of care you can get. Your Medicaid plan completely covers the cost!

2.

We provide training for your caregiver

You choose your caregiver: your daughter, son, relative, or friend. We give them hands-on training and help them with all paperwork and procedures. You both also get ongoing support and help is available 24/7.

3.

They get paid weekly up to $21.09 per hour

You get the comfort of having a caregiver who knows you, loves you, and understands you, and they get paid weekly up to $21.09 per hour. And it’s all fully covered by Medicaid!

CDPAP – or Consumer-Directed Personal Assistance Program, is a New York State Medicaid program which allows consumers to choose their own caregivers. If you’re eligible, you can choose almost anyone you want to care for you – and they’ll get paid for it. Friends & Family Home Care Services is a top provider of CDPAP in New York State!
CDPAS – or Consumer-Directed Personal Assistance Services, are home care services offered within a program such as personal home care, assistance with activities of daily living, and the companionship provided throughout the course of the day. While CDPAP and CDPAS may cause confusion for some, they are in essence one in the same — one refers to the program itself and the other to the particular services offered within the program.
If you have Medicaid and need help with activities of daily living — like shopping, cleaning, bathing, and grooming — there’s a good chance you’re eligible.

No! CDPAP caregivers do not need a license or certificate.

Weekly hours are dependent on the patient’s needed level of care, which are assigned after nurse assessments by the patient’s Health Plan.

Yes. For example, CDPAP caregivers can care for Mom and Dad at the same time.
To qualify for CDPAP, the person you’re caregiving for must:
  1. Have Medicaid (If you don’t have Medicaid, we can help you obtain it)
  2. Live in New York
  3. Need help with day-to-day activities
If you are the son, daughter, relative, or friend of the person needing care, you can be hired. A legal spouse, a parent caring for a child under 21, or a designated representative cannot be hired as a caregiver.
We provide services across New York state including Albany, Bronx, Broome, Cayuga, Chemung, Columbia, Dutchess, Erie, Fulton, Greene, Herkimer, Brooklyn, Monroe, Montgomery, Nassau, New York, Niagara, Oneida, Ontario, Orange, Oswego, Putnam, Queens, Staten Island, Rockland, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Seneca, Suffolk, and Westchester.

This depends on two things:

  • How many hours are approved by your insurance plan.
  • How many hours you want your caregiver to work.

All work hours are subject to appropriate labor regulations and policies.

Your caregiver gets paid weekly!
Yes, but you’ll need to split the hours. For example, if Dad qualifies for 17 hours per week and Mom qualifies for 20 hours per week, you can work in the home for 37 hours and be paid for 37 hours. The hours will be split: you cannot be on the clock for both Mom and Dad at the same time.
No. You can add their hours together, but you cannot be paid double.

No. You cannot get paid for taking care of your spouse if you are legally married.
